DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE
Half-Time (50% FTE)

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Development Associate is responsible for managing and coordinating development activities, building the resources and increasing the visibility of the organization through a variety of fund development, communications, and marketing strategies. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the position is responsible for coordinating individual donor solicitation, coordinating direct mail and email efforts, assisting with grant identification and writing, producing press releases and other development materials, and strategizing potential fundraising events.

AGENCY OVERVIEW:

Founded in Berkeley in 1982,Through the Looking Glass (TLG) is a nationally recognized non-profit agency that has pioneered services, training and research concerning families in which an infant, child, parent or grandparent has a disability. We have received numerous federal, state and regional grant awards as a model program for families with disabilities. We are a committed and supportive team working in a friendly and casual environment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • With the Executive Director, implement strategies to build individual donor and major donor gifts.
  • Oversee donor database system and donor report generation.
  • With the Executive Director, write and coordinate donor appeal letter mailings and other communications.
  • Conduct individual, corporate and foundation prospecting.
  • Prepare quarterly reports for the Board of Directors and coordinate development activities with the Board.
  • Assist with Board development.
  • With the Executive Director, develop and manage a Development Calendar.
  • Identify sources of potential grants, write small grants, and assist Executive Director and other staff in preparing major grant applications.
  • Oversee and implement development activities on the agency's website.
  • Prepare press releases and email blasts about agency events and activities.
  • Provide development information for agency brochures and publications as appropriate.
  • With the Executive Director and agency staff, strategize possible fundraising events.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least three years experience with non-profit fundraising including major gifts support, event planning, marketing, and publications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated track record in managing individual donor campaigns, corporate campaigns, grant writing, and fundraising events.
  • Highly computer literate including MicroSoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access); and donor database systems.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams and with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.

Salary Range: FTE= $48,000-$50,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Position includes paid Vacation, Holidays, Health & Dental Insurance.
